SGI is about to release the world's most powerful Linux high performance system based on Intel Itanium 2 microprocessors. Using the uniquely scalable SGI® NUMAflexTM memory architecture, the new machine will connect up to 64 Itanium 2 processors in shared memory upon its public introduction in early 2003.
SGI has continued to demonstrate the scalability and performance of Itanium 2 processors and 64-bit Linux in the NUMAflex architecture since SGI announced a commitment to deliver a scalable Itanium 2-based platform in July 2002. These demonstrations include public exhibitions of 64-processor scalability at the Intel Developer Forum on September 9, 2002, in San Jose, California, and at the Supercomputing 2002 trade show from November 18 to 21, 2002, in Baltimore, Maryland. In September 2002, SGI announced the achievement of a new world record in scalability for system memory bandwidth on microprocessor-based systems using the unreleased product design.
SGI will make further announcements about this revolutionary product, including the publication of additional world-record performance results, upon its public unveiling in early 2003.
