SGI® Reality CenterTM wall displays are the most commonly selected display configurations. Their advantages include:

  • Ideal environment for large-group collaborative visualization
  • Abundant variety of available applications--all existing SGI® IRIX® applications run
  • Large size for maximum scale and increased immersion
  • Ability to facilitate both working sessions and presentations
SGI Reality Center wall displays can be as small as a whiteboard or as large as a multistory screen. Depending on the configuration, they may be very large or small enough to fit into an existing office or conference room.

Custom Reality Center wall displays usually include at least three projectors and can have many more, depending on the application. Projectors are installed in front of the screen or behind when it's expected that viewers will walk up to the screen and the associated shadowing would be undesirable. Custom Reality Center wall displays are driven by SGI® Onyx® 3000 series systems with InfiniteReality® family graphics, SGI Onyx 3000 series systems with InfinitePerformanceTM graphics, SGI® Onyx® 300 system with InfiniteReality family graphics, or Silicon Graphics® Onyx2®. Their screens are flat, curved, or cylindrical, and their sizes vary greatly. They can start at around 9 feet wide x 7 feet high (approximately 3 m x 2.3 m) and can run as large as a multistory screen or planetarium dome 90 feet in diameter. Custom Reality Center wall displays can be run with stereo or mono graphics and, like off-the-shelf (OTS) wall displays, are typically used in styling, scientific data analysis, and network management environments, as well as presentation centers, virtual heritage and museum projects, and research facilities. Custom Reality Center wall displays are typically used by five to 200 people at a time.

An OTS SGI Reality Center wall display will fit into an existing office, lab, or conference room. The display includes two or three projectors in the base or rear of the freestanding unit and uses an SGI Onyx 3000 series system with InfiniteReality family graphics, an SGI Onyx 3000 series system with InfinitePerformance graphics, an SGI Onyx 300 system with InfiniteReality family graphics, a Silicon Graphics Onyx2 system, or a Silicon Graphics® Octane2TM visual workstation. Its screen size is usually about the size of a large whiteboard. Most of the time, the screen is flat. OTS Reality Center wall displays can be run with or without stereo viewing capability and are common for use in design review, conceptual modeling, scientific data analysis, sales and marketing, and network management environments. OTS Reality Center wall displays are typically used by two to 20 people at a time.
