Saad Information Technology Company Plays a Role in Major “Ma’aden” Project
19/10/2008

Starting August 1st, 2008, SITCO has begun working with Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma'aden) on their most recent phosphate project. Ma’aden is one of the major resource companies in the Middle East. The company has established several large mines across the Kingdom, mainly on the development of the Al-Jalamid phosphate deposit, located in the northern region of the Kingdom. This location produces up to 5.3 million tons per year of phosphate concentrate, which are then converted to approximately 3.0 million tons per year of diammonium phosphate fertilizer (DAP). This conversion process takes place at facilities located in Ras Az Zawr on the eastern seashore. The two locations, approximately 1400 km apart, will be linked by a new railway infrastructure which is being developed by The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.

The Location:

The Al Jalamid site encompasses open cut mining facilities, a beneficiation process plant, ground water supply and treatment facilities, power generation facilities, tailings treatment and disposal as well as industrial and social infrastructure facilities. The phosphate deposit will be strip-mined and processed in the beneficiation plant at this site; the product concentrate will then be transported by railway to the Ras Az Zawr chemical complex. In the early months of operation the concentrate will be transported by trucks.

The Ras Az Zawr site, a chemical complex, consists of process plants for the production of phosphoric acid, sulphuric acid, ammonia and diammonium phosphate (DAP). Concentrate rail unloading and molten sulphur receiving facilities will be provided. Utilities, social and industrial infrastructure and facilities will also be provided at this Site. In the early months of operation the concentrate will be received by trucks to temporary truck unloading facilities.

The Project:

SITCO’s role in the project stems from Ma’aden’s need to construct non-process industrial buildings in the Complex as part of the Ma'aden Phosphate Project. The industrial buildings shall provide administrative and operational support to all the major Plants.

SITCO’s scope of work includes building the infrastructure for all communication, data, public address and fire system works, as well as providing fire protection and detection systems for the industrial buildings, including the weighbridge offices and the gatehouses. The fire protection and detection system will be designed and installed in compliance with the requirements of NFPA and other statutory regulations of the local authorities. SITCO will be responsible for:

  • Installation of fire protection and detection systems for the industrial buildings.  Fire detection system alarms shall be routed to a central fire control panel within each building.

  • Completing all associated electrical works.

  • Completing all associated instrumentation and control works.

  • Completing all associated civil works, including the  fire water distribution system, wall concealed conduits, plinths for marshalling cabinets and fire indicating panels.

  • Completing all associated mechanical works, such as mounting stands, supports and brackets.

SITCO will also handle all structured cabling systems for communication reticulation. All industrial buildings shall be provided with the necessary voice, data and structured cabling systems as per “Plant Site Communication System Specification”
